On the Guardian’s recommendation, I’ve had a look at “Happy Valley”, a BBC police drama set in Yorkshire

Now we’ve got that out of the way, we can get into some character development…

Kurt Vonnegut wrote :

“Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To heck with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.”

  1. I often refer young writers to Mr. Vonnegut. I refer myself as well, on a regular basis. His “rules” are refreshing.
