…”Ooops…”

A groom accidentally killed three relatives at his wedding in Akcagoze, Turkey when he fired into the air with an assault rifle in celebration, according to reports.

The groom unleashed a series of rapid aerial shots with an AK-47 rifle to celebrate his nuptials, but quickly lost control of the weapon and accidentally shot his guests, the Anatolia news agency said.

His father and two of his aunts died in hospital.

Those garages.

No-one bought them (surprise, surprise…), so the council has them on the market to rent.

Do a quick NPV calculation on the metrics (Cost: €42k, Revenue:€1.56k per annum) with a discount rate of 3% and you’re STILL negative to the tune of €20k after TWENTY YEARS.

(A word to the wise: If your NPV isn’t positive, you should be doing something else with your money.)

All €170k of it

You COULD go NPV-positive in about 20 years, but you’d have to charge €300 a month.

Not much less than you’d pay for a small-ish apartment….

>She can’t HELP being older than me….

…it’s just that she was born earlier.

Constantly moaning about it and saying “Yes, but I’m only A BIT older than you” doesn’t work.

Older is older.

Talking about my cousin Ruth Margaret Benn whose mumble mumble birthday it is today.

Happy birthday, dear.

Hope you like the card.

It was cheap enough…..

Said Professor John Kannankulam, Professor of Political Science and lead singer with Ska Trek, a local reggae/rocksteady band as he finished opening for Toots and the Maytals last night at the excellent (0.5l Hefeweizen €3.50…) Central Station in Darmstadt.

Great little high-energy band with a pneumatic female lead singer in a sprayed-on glittery black dress and the aforementioned Prof. skanking as if his life depended on it.

And then Toots.

Kicks off (KICKS OFF, ffs) with “Pressure Drop” (here’s Robert Palmers reading for reference) in the slinkiest groove you can imagine, he’s got the audience with him within a minute flat, no-one’s standing still, there’s a significant risk of cardiac failure in the mosh-pit and it goes non-stop for 2 solid hours with “Monkey Man” at about the half way mark until he winds it up with “24-54-46 was my number“, by which time he’s shaken hands with most of the audience and distributed the best part of a truckload of mineral water.

Not the sort of stuff you get served up at the Boathouse in Nelson…..

Ace backing singers btw – one a skinny bird on happy pills with moves you just would NOT BELIEVE; the other Toots’ daughter who didn’t smile all night.

In the best tradition of daughters mortified by what their 65 year old father is getting up to in their presence….

>A gaggle of geese, a nest of rabbits… #8

.. a shitload of postcards.

When I was at school in New Zealand in the 1950s/60s, one of the annual school treats was a trip to the Bridgeway movie theatre on Northcote Point.

Usually a National Geographic film with the notoriously staged mouse:snake/gazelle:cheetah confrontations, sometimes Jacques Cousteau and “Calypso”, occasionally (for the 6th form English class) a black and white Russian production of “Hamlet” (powerlines in the distance included at no extra charge).

I have no idea who was responsible for sneaking the short film on Alexander Calder into the programme (Dougal Page, probably), but I was hooked fror life.

Imagine then my joy when I entered a room at the Hirschhorn Museum in Washington DC FILLED with Calder mobiles.
