I slept last night in the Fairmont hotel (laughs)
I went shopping today for jewels
The wind rushed around in the dirty town
And the children let out from the schools
I was standing on a noisy corner
Waiting for the walking green
Across the street he stood
And he played real good
On his clarinet, for free

From “Miles of Aisles”.

Just look at the exquisite structure of that first verse, reducing line by line down to the words that stick in your head

I gave that to Linda, my mate Pete’s girlfriend at the time, when she graduated from BA’s cabin crew training course in the mid-70s.

And she sure saw a lot of those..
